Beloved of the Lord shalom to you all. This word has been weigh hard upon my spirit-‘What about mercy!’
When you study scripture closely you will realize that one of rhe things that our Lord and Saviour taught us is mercy.
Now the definition of mercy from the Bible is forgiveness or withholding punishment.
To have mercymeans to have compassion or forbearance.
Where according to the law one is guilty; mercy says forgiven!
You and I have people that wronged us, maybe they stole from you, badmouthed you or ill-treated you. Hear me good according to what Jesus taught us have mercy!
In John 8
- Early in the morning (at dawn), He came back into the temple [court], and the people came to Him in crowds. He sat down and was teaching them,
- When the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery. They made her stand in the middle of the court and put the case before Him.
- Teacher, they said, This woman has been caught in the very act of adultery.
My fellow brethren truthfully speaking this woman was guilty and according to the law she deserved to be stoned to death, yet mercy spoke for her.
We have a tendency of seeing the speck in other’s eyes, ignoring the logs in our own eyes.
We have a tendency again of crucifying others when rather we should show mercy!
No matter how someone wrongs you nor how deep you feel it goes- forgive!!!
This is where we are failing as believers and do not qualify as Christians!
To be a Christian means to be Christ-like, now ask yourself are you like Christ?
I have heard people say I’m not Jesus, yes you are but if you claim to be truly born again then you should be Christ Jesus because you cannot say, ‘it’s no longer I who lives but Christ lives in me’, when you deny that you are Him.
In verse 7 of John 8 mercy spoke for this woman, watch this-
- However, when they persisted with their question, He raised Himself up and said, Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.
- Then He bent down and went on writing on the ground with His finger.
- They listened to Him, and then they began going out, conscience-stricken, one by one, from the oldest down to the last one of them, till Jesus was left alone, with the woman standing there before Him in the center of the court.
- When Jesus raised Himself up, He said to her, Woman, where are your accusers? Has no man condemned you?
- She answered, No one, Lord! And Jesus said, I do not condemn you either. Go on your way and from now on sin no more.
Our Lord did not only show mercy to this woman alone they many many more, including Zaccheaus who was corrupt was pardoned.
The last example I want to give on ‘What about mercy!’ from our Lord Jesus Christ is this one- Jesus was crucified and whilst on the cross He cried out a prayer for MERCY- Luke 23
- And Jesus prayed, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And they divided His garments and distributed them by casting lots for them. [Ps. 22:18.]
To some of you, you might scoff at this and say they crucified Him surely they knew what they were doing yet certain things go deeper that what’s on the surface. They are certain people who do things that’s beyond what’s on the surface and it is important to recognize what it is-as some individuals are demon driven and we need to deal with spirits behind, not the person and it starts with us showing mercy!
As you are there and you have people that wronged you, hurt you, what is it that you are speaking out with you mouth is it mercy or condemnation?!
You are failing to progress in life because you are bitter and have no mercy towards someone or some people. My brethren-What about MERCY!
Just as seasoning enhances the tastes of meal-a little bit of mercy here and there will go a very long way to enhance/improve the quality of your life!
