My fellow brethren in Christ warm greeting to you all.Hear me well, stop chasing after the gift whilst neglecting the fruit. It is sad that many of us focus on the gift rather than the fruit!
The best way to see if someone is used by God is not by their gift but rather by their fruit. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ said in Matthew 7
- You will fully recognize them by their fruits. Do people pick grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?
- Even so, every healthy (sound) tree bears good fruit [worthy of admiration], but the sickly (decaying, worthless) tree bears bad (worthless) fruit.
Sons of God in as much as we need to function in gifts of God which is brilliant, let us not only be blindsided on gifts alone because even the devil is capable of functioning in gifts, but desire to function, produce, and have the fruit of the spirit which is listed here in Galatians 5
- But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,
- Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].
- And those who belong to Christ Jesus (the Messiah) have crucified the flesh (the godless human nature) with its passions and appetites and desires.
It is possible to function in gifts of the spirit without the spirit of God within you!
The Apostle Paul explained this as he made comparison of the importance of the fruit versus the most sought after gifts: –
1 Corinthians 13
- IF I [can] speak in the tongues of men and [even] of angels, but have not love (that reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such as is inspired by God’s love for and in us), I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
- And if I have prophetic powers (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), and understand all the secret truths and mysteries and possess all knowledge, and if I have [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but have not love (God’s love in me) I am nothing (a useless nobody).
May you learn today Sons of God that the fruit of the Spirit is of more value or worth than the gifts. In 1 Corinthians 13, it is evident that the gifts speaking in tongues and/or prophesying and/or mountain-moving faith is incomparable to the fruit of love!
So let us weigh our options and see what we choose to value and seek after-the gifts or the fruit!
A powerful man/woman of God is one that not only functions in the gifts of the spirit but one that also has and produces the fruit of the Spirit of God!
