My fellow brethren in Christ Jesus greetings to you all. Hear me well today, there is a vast difference between conviction and condemnation!
Many Christians today do not know the difference between these two and some end up being bound and wounded.
Before I give the definitions to these words allow me to give you the scripture that speaks of them.
John 16:7-11
[7]However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].
[8]And when He comes, He will convict and convince the world and bring demonstration to it about sin and about righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God) and about judgment:
[9]About sin, because they do not believe in Me [trust in, rely on, and adhere to Me];
[10]About righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God), because I go to My Father, and you will see Me no longer;
[11]About judgment, because the ruler (evil genius, prince) of this world [Satan] is judged and condemned and sentence already is passed upon him.
Now if you look closely that word Conviction comes from the Greek word elegcho to mean,convince/persuade, tell a fault,rebuke and/or reprove. Watch this, the Holy Spirit does not condemn the world of sin, meaning the Lord our Father doesn’t either condemn the world of sin but tells us if our faults or sin.
Of condemnation the Bible says, Romans 8:1-2
[1]THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit. [John 3:18.]
[2]For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death.
To condemn means to castigate, find guilty.
I saw something that happened in scripture that proves Christ Jesus does not condemn us, yet this is no reason for you or I to continue to sin.
John 8:10-11
[10]When Jesus raised Himself up, He said to her, Woman, where are your accusers? Has no man condemned you?
[11]She answered, No one, Lord! And Jesus said, I do not condemn you either. Go on your way and from now on sin no more.
Listen to me my fellow brethren, if Christ Jesus didn’t condemn this woman, no man/woman of God can condemn you, me included!
Rather, we can convict or persuade each other of sin.
With this said, know where you stand and what to tolerate and do not allow to be manipulated due to ignorance.
