My beloved friend there is an irrevocable truth that I began to perceive as I studied and analyze the life of Abraham and the very reason why God blesses us. To understand the blessing of the Lord that maketh rich and adds no sorrow we have to understand where the matter of blessing began and why it was given.
You see the misconception we have is that we deserve God’s blessing anyhow yet what we don’t realize is why we should be blessed or why is the blessing given in the first place.
Now Abraham was not blessed because he had faith, no!
He was blessed because he was to become the father of many nations, and for that reason he needed the blessing to obtain wealth so that he can fend for the nations or the generations that were to come. The blessing given to him was not for himself but was for the nations that would be birthed through him.
Many of us today pray misguided prayers and ask for the Abrahamic blessing hoping that it will make us rich for ourselves, yet God blesses individuals for generations not for individual/personal gain.
Genesis 18:
[18]Since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed through him and shall bless themselves by him? [Gen. 12:2-3.]
When you read or study the word of God correctly you will understand and know the reason behind God blessing individuals.
Genesis 22:
[18]And in your Seed [Christ] shall all the nations of the earth be blessed and [by Him] bless themselves, because you have heard and obeyed My voice. [Gen. 12:2-3; 13:16; 22:18; 26:4; 28:14; Acts 3:25, 26; Gal. 3:16.]
The blessing was for the seed of Abraham not necessarily for him.
Having said this I need you to ask yourself the reason why God should bless you; is it for that mansion and luxurious car or it has generations in mind. If God has blessed you that wealth or money is not for you but it is for other people around you that are in need to blessed, are we clear!
That is why James writes and says, you ask and you receive not because your motives are wrong! What are your intentions for receiving the blessing of God upon your life?
The blessing is for the benefit of others not yourself alone, let me reiterate. The blessing of the Lord is not wealth but it is the power to obtain wealth. Joseph was blessed for his family and nation during famine, so was Jacob who was later called Israel and ancestral “father” of the nation of Israel and through Abraham’s obedience Christ was blessed for us to enjoy that blessing for the sole purpose of utilizing the blessing for spreading and the work of the gospel and reaching out to lost souls.
