My beloved friend, what will take many to hell is the love of the world and the things of the world. The love for pleasures; immorality, impurity, indecency, Idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger (ill temper), selfishness, divisions (dissensions), party spirit (factions, sects with peculiar opinions, heresies), Envy, drunkenness, carousing.
This world is full of things that will keep one focused on earthly things and blinded to the truth and reality of God and His Kingdom. I have heard some say, ‘I don’t love things but things love me.’
Sadly to say is that the deception the devil gives one the impression that silver platters and red carpets will be rolled out for you. The story of Lazarus and the rich man- whom heaven didn’t bother to mention by name, was told for a reason.
Is it not strange that when it came to ‘rich men’, the Bible didn’t bother to mention the names of those particular individuals?
Now don’t misconstrue what I am saying, God doesn’t want us to be poor on earth but most of all He doesn’t want us to be also poor that we don’t qualify for heaven either, whilst rich on earth. There is a damn good reason why God commanded us not to chase after riches and wealth firstly but for His Kingdom and righteousness instead, cos if we first seek after these we neglect seeking after Him!
Note God did not say don’t seek after riches or wealth but He said firstly, top priority must be given to His Kingdom and Righteousness.
Matthew 6:33 But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
Hear this, Pleasure is not sin but any pleasure without God is sin.
Being rich is not sin, but any riches without God is sin.
God has to be first above everything else!
1 John 2: says,
[15]Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him.
[16]For all that is in the world–the lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification] and the lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind] and the pride of life [assurance in one’s own resources or in the stability of earthly things]–these do not come from the Father but are from the world [itself].
[17]And the world passes away and disappears, and with it the forbidden cravings (the passionate desires, the lust) of it; but he who does the will of God and carries out His purposes in his life abides (remains) forever.
How then will you measure to see if you not wrapped up in worldly things and acquiring riches and wealth ungodly?
This is very simple just weigh and see if in everything God is in it, If not then understand that you are the puppet of the devil. Make Christ Jesus your firm Foundation in everything you set out to do and acquire, so that your riches and wealth will participate in the advancement of the Kingdom of God and in promoting His Righteousness.
