My friend Proverbs 4:4-7 says, He taught me and said to me, Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments and live. [I Chron. 28:9; Eph. 6:4.]
Get skillful and godly Wisdom, get understanding (discernment, comprehension, and interpretation); do not forget and do not turn back from the words of my mouth.
Forsake not [Wisdom], and she will keep, defend, and protect you; love her, and she will guard you.
The beginning of Wisdom is: get Wisdom (skillful and godly Wisdom)! [For skillful and godly Wisdom is the principal thing.] And with all you have gotten, get understanding (discernment, comprehension, and interpretation). [James 1:5.]
Understanding- is to perceive the intended meaning of (words, a language, or a speaker).
Reason why we say Amen in church when receiving the word is to show that i have heard and understood what i am being taught; so be it. Challenge with some of us is we are acquiring information after information but we are failing to utilise or process the information we have acquired and applying it due to lack of understanding. James writes and says faith without works is dead. Fir there to be works this is based on your understanding of the scripture. It is one thing to just hear something and do nothing about it, and it is another to hear and apply into action what you have heard and understood. The bible teaches us about not being hearers alone of the word thus decieving ourselves but doers of the word. (James1:22-25)
We cannot do the word we do not understand so it is imperative that we get understanding.
